If Tigoni is about gentle tea country, Kereita Forest is its wilder neighbour. On the southern slopes of the Aberdare range, it is known for one of Kenya's longest zip-line courses and guided walks through highland forest. Here is what to expect. (Kereita's activities are run by independent operators, not Tigoni Escapes.)
Where it is
Kereita Forest lies north-west of Limuru in Kiambu County, in the southern Aberdares. It is usually reached via the Nairobi–Nakuru highway, and the drive from Nairobi takes roughly an hour to an hour and a half depending on traffic.
The zip line
The main attraction is a zip-line course of about 2.2 km in total, spread across several lines over the forest canopy and valleys. Shorter taster options are offered for those who want a smaller first try. Operators provide harnesses, helmets and a safety briefing.

Forest walks
Guided walks lead through the highland forest, with views over the surrounding hills. The forest is cool and often misty, and the paths can be muddy after rain.

What to bring
- Closed shoes with grip.
- Warm layers and a rain jacket; it is colder than Nairobi.
- Long trousers for the harness.
- Water and snacks.
Kereita and Tigoni in one trip
Both make full days in themselves, so they are best done on separate days or as part of a weekend. Stay a night in Tigoni, do a tea walk or e-bike ride on one day, and drive out to Kereita on the other.
