Tigoni is a good place for a family day out: close enough to Nairobi that the drive is not a battle, with open space, farms and forest to explore. The key is to keep the plan simple and the walks short. Here is how to make it work with children.
Keep the day short and simple
With young children, plan one activity in the morning and a relaxed lunch, and leave before the late-afternoon traffic. Tigoni's appeal is space and fresh air; you do not need a packed schedule to have a good day.
Walks that work for families
A guided tea farm walk can be shortened for little legs and is full of things to point at: the rows of tea, pickers at work, birds and farm animals. Older children often enjoy a longer hike on forest tracks. Tell us the ages in your group when you book and we will suggest the right route.

E-bike rides for older children and teens
Teenagers who are confident on a bicycle and tall enough for an adult bike can join an e-bike tour, which tends to be a hit. Ask us about ages and heights when you book.

Farm visits and gardens
Farm lunches and tea farm visits with gardens give children room to move while adults eat. Some farm visits include a look at animals or how food is made. Check with each place whether children are welcome and whether there is a children's menu.

Tips for parents
- Pack warm layers for the children; they feel the highland cold quickly.
- Bring spare clothes and shoes: red-earth mud gets everywhere.
- Carry snacks and water; farms and cafés are spread out.
- Sunscreen and hats, even on cool days.
- Strollers struggle on farm tracks, so a baby carrier is better for walks.
A family day plan
Leave Nairobi around 8:00, do a short guided walk from 9:30, have a long garden lunch from 12:30, buy fruit at a farm stall, and be home before the evening rush. For a private family day with everything arranged, ask about a custom day.
